Travis Metcalfe started working on the Windows to the Universe project in 2004, with the support of an Astronomy & Astrophysics Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. He developed an interest in web-based outreach while in graduate school at the University of Texas-Austin, where he started a non-profit organization in 1999 dedicated to scientific research and public education on topics relevant to white dwarf stars. His research involves studying the interiors of pulsating stars through a technique known as astero-seismology. Visit his weekly blog for an astronomer's perspective on current astronomy news. |
