Hurricanes are violent storms which begin in the tropics. Different parts
of the world call hurricanes by different names.
Hurricanes form
over the ocean and die down when they move over land.
Scientists try to forecast where and
when the center of the storm, the eye, will reach land in
order to warn people about the damage caused by
the strong winds, heavy rain, and storm surge.
Hurricanes are given male and female names. These names change every
year. Hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. This is
when the most hurricanes form.

Hurricanes are violent storms which begin in the tropics. They are the
most powerful of all weather systems. Different parts of the world call
hurricanes by different names.
Hurricanes form
over the warm tropical water in ocean and die down when they move over land.
Meteorologists try to forecast where and
when the center of the storm, the eye,
will reach land in order to warn people about the damage caused by
the strong winds, heavy rain, and storm surge.
Hurricanes have been given alternating male and female names since 1979.
These names change every year. Hurricanes may form anytime during the
year, but they are most likely to form between June 1st and November
30th; this is hurricane season.

Hurricanes are violent storms which begin in the tropics. They are the
most powerful of all weather systems. The average storm is about 340
miles in diameter. Different parts of the world call hurricanes by
different names.
Hurricanes form
over the warm tropical water in ocean and die down when they move over land.
Meteorologists try to forecast where and
when the center of the storm, the eye,
will reach land in order to warn people about the damage caused by
the strong winds, heavy rain, and storm surge associated
with the storm.
Hurricanes used to be identified by their location, but that became too
confusing. From 1953 to 1979 they were given female names, and since
1979 they have been given alternating male and female names. Hurricanes
may form throughout the year, but the ingredients are best between June
1st and November 30th; this is hurricane season. More hurricanes form in
August and September than any other time.
