Ahsonnutli was the sky father and chief god of the Navajo. He created heaven, Earth, and the sky. The four main directions are believed to be supported by giants.

Each direction has a specific color: white-east; blue-south; yellow-west; black-north. These colors are used in sand paintings created by a singer or holy man during many of the Navajo ceremonies.

Ahsonnutli was the sky father and chief god for the Navajo. He created heaven, Earth, and the sky. Each of the four directions, or cardinal points, are supported by a giant. Each direction is symbolized by a color: white-east; blue-south; yellow-west; black-north.

These colors are used by shaman (holy man) or singers during various ceremonies to create beautiful sand paintings. The Navajo believe that each direction has a distinct wind which forms the clouds.

The clouds are believed to be the movement of the wings of white swans in each of the four corners.

Ahsonnutli was the sky father and chief deity of the Navajo Indians. He created heaven, Earth, and the sky. Each of the four cardinal directions was supported by a giant. Each direction was also associated with a different color: white for the east, blue for the south, yellow for the west, and black for the north.

Moreover, the Navajo Indians believed that from each cardinal point originates a distinct wind which brings the clouds, generated by the movement of the wings of a white swan located in each corner.

Navajo use colorful and symmetrical painting in the sand as a representation of the position of planets and stars. These sand paintings are used to attract a particular healing power on a sick person or to suggest moral behavior.
