Welcome to the SPA On-Line Open House!

The members of the Space Physics and Aeronomy section of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) would like to take this opportunity to share information with the public about the exciting missions and research activities being carried out within our scientific community. The web resources you will find here have been developed by hundreds of practicing scientists around the world. We hope that students, teachers, professionals in other disciplines - indeed anyone who is curious about and interested in space science and Earth's near space environment will find something of interest here.

Research activities within the Space Physics and Aeronomy section of the AGU fall into three general areas:

  • solar and heliospheric physics - the study of the Sun, solar variability, and the interplanetary medium
  • magnetospheric physics - the study of the plasmas, magnetic and electric fields, and current systems in planetary magnetospheres
  • aeronomy - the study of planetary ionospheres and upper atmospheres and their interactions with space
The SPA Open House brings together in one convenient location on the Web links to web resources relating to SPA science. These resources include tutorials on specific SPA science topics, background information on space science missions, research highlights, classroom activities, and various web offerings developed by members of the SPA science community. Also included are links to sites offering access to real-time data from space- and ground-based experimental facilities as well as to web pages providing information on theory, data, and image archives.

We welcome comments and suggestions, which should be sent to R. Johnson or W. Lewis. The SPA On-line Open House is a collaborative undertaking of the SPA Education and Public Outreach and Web Development Committees and is partially supported with funds from the AGU Council.
